DELTA TARGETS 15,000 INDIGENT RESIDENTS WITH N4BN GRANT

The Delta State Government has approved N4 billion to empower 15,000 indigent residents, support small businesses and ease economic hardship across the state.
The beneficiaries will be drawn from the 25 local government areas, with priority given to existing small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs and vulnerable residents.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba. He was accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon.
Aniagwu said the intervention would be implemented through the Delta State Social Investment Programme (DSSIP) in the coming weeks, with clear eligibility criteria guiding the selection of beneficiaries.
The General Manager of DSSIP, Chief Henry Sakpra, said the selection process would be transparent, fair and accountable to ensure that the funds reached genuine beneficiaries.
Sakpra stressed that the programme was designed to deliver meaningful impact at the grassroots by strengthening small businesses, encouraging entrepreneurship and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable residents.
He added that appropriate monitoring and accountability measures would be adopted to ensure the initiative achieved its objectives and that the funds were used for their intended purpose.
The General Manager urged eligible residents to follow official announcements and programme guidelines, warning against unofficial payments or individuals demanding money in exchange for access to the grant.
The intervention aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises inclusive development, economic empowerment and improved welfare for Deltans.
