Sowore Unveils ₦500,000 Minimum Wage, Free Education, 24-Hour Power Plan for 2027

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has unveiled an ambitious campaign agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising sweeping economic and social reforms if elected president.

Sowore said his administration would introduce a ₦500,000 monthly living minimum wage, provide 24-hour electricity, and make education free and accessible at all levels.

He also pledged to construct one million public mixed-income housing units, reform tenancy laws to reduce the burden of advance rent payments, improve healthcare delivery, industrialise the economy and expand agricultural production and processing.

According to him, the proposed ₦500,000 living minimum wage is aimed at ensuring that Nigerian workers earn wages capable of meeting basic living needs.

He argued that workers should no longer be subjected to what he described as starvation wages while political officeholders receive substantial remuneration.

On security, the AAC candidate promised a comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s security architecture, including improved welfare for security personnel and the deployment of modern technology such as drones and advanced intelligence systems to combat insecurity.

Sowore also pledged an uncompromising campaign against corruption, promising to recover public resources allegedly stolen by political officeholders.

He said an AAC-led government would prioritise the welfare of Nigerians and ensure that the country's natural and economic resources translate into improved living conditions.

The presidential candidate further disclosed that the AAC would operate a people-funded campaign, rather than depend on wealthy individuals, political godfathers or patrons.

Sowore, who is among the 18 presidential candidates announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 election, said Nigerians were increasingly receptive to what he described as a leftist government.

He maintained that the party's socialism was practical and focused on providing Nigerians with access to quality education, healthcare, housing, electricity, living wages and social protection.

Despite his previous presidential contests, Sowore expressed confidence that the AAC's chances in the 2027 election had never been better, attributing the optimism to the party's independence from political godfathers and wealthy patrons.
