The Chairman of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Paul Oredena Oweh, alongside members of the Board, has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for re-election in 2027, expressing confidence in their leadership and ongoing reforms. The endorsement was made at the Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat, where the Board members emphasised the importance of continuity in governance to consolidate achievements and sustain development.

Dr Oweh, speaking alongside other members of the Board, expressed satisfaction with Governor Oborevwori’s performance, particularly in the health sector, noting that the administration had demonstrated commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving access to quality medical services across Delta State. He attributed the progress recorded in the sector partly to improved revenue accruing to the state from the Federal Government, which has enabled increased investment in public healthcare facilities.

The chairman explained that the Hospitals Management Board oversees 65 hospitals serving urban, rural and riverine communities across the state. He noted that the government’s investments in these facilities were aimed at ensuring that residents, irrespective of their location, could access affordable and quality healthcare services closer to their communities.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements in medical equipment provision, Dr Oweh disclosed that 25 hospitals had received 4D ultrasound scan machines, while Central Hospital, Warri, had been equipped with a CT scan machine, an MRI machine, a C-arm X-ray machine and three dialysis machines. He added that the government subsidises dialysis treatment, allowing patients to access the procedure at ₦45,000, alongside improvements in laboratory services, neonatal care, operating theatres and intensive-care facilities.

On infrastructure development, the Board chairman identified the construction of a modern hospital complex at General Hospital, Orerokpe; renovation and completion of the previously abandoned Mother and Child building at General Hospital, Ekpan; and construction of a new Accident and Emergency Complex at Government Hospital, Ekpan, as notable achievements. He also cited the completion of key service buildings at General Hospital, Ibusa, and the government’s takeover of the previously abandoned community health facility at Tsekelewo.

The Board members further noted that the provision of modern equipment and rehabilitation of hospital buildings had expanded the range of diagnostic and treatment services available to patients. They highlighted Central Hospital, Warri, the Board’s flagship facility, which provides advanced medical services, including neurosurgical operations, despite being classified as a secondary-care facility.

Dr Oweh also highlighted improvements in the health workforce, disclosing that 711 personnel had been employed across Hospitals Management Board facilities to strengthen service delivery. He said the government had approved the replacement of staff who leave through retirement or migration, while training and retraining programmes continue for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists and other allied health professionals. More than 60 resident doctors, he added, are undergoing specialist training at various stages of their residency programmes.

On access to healthcare, the Board commended the continued funding of services under the state’s health insurance scheme and the Equity Programme, through which eligible beneficiaries receive maternal healthcare services, including deliveries and Caesarean sections, at no cost. The members also noted that thousands of children under five receive free treatment in Board-managed hospitals monthly, helping to reduce financial barriers to essential healthcare and improve health outcomes for vulnerable families.

The Board members called on Deltans and Nigerians to support President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections, maintaining that continuity in leadership would provide an opportunity to sustain ongoing reforms and consolidate development efforts. They expressed optimism that continued investment in hospital infrastructure, modern medical equipment, workforce development and equitable access to healthcare would further improve service delivery across Delta State.
