Sowore Begins North American Tour, Reunites With Family Ahead of 2027 Presidential Campaign

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, is set to depart Nigeria for a tour of the United States and Canada, where he will meet Nigerians in the diaspora and reconnect with his immediate family after a prolonged period in the country.

Sowore is expected to travel through Washington, D.C., as part of the North American tour, which comes ahead of the 2027 general elections and the next phase of his presidential campaign.

The AAC presidential candidate has spent an extended period in Nigeria amid a series of arrests, detentions and legal proceedings involving the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The development followed months of legal battles over his prosecution, including a cybercrime case arising from his description of President Bola Tinubu as a criminal. The DSS recently announced that it had directed its prosecutors to pause the prosecution.

During his stay in North America, Sowore is expected to engage Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders as the AAC strengthens its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the campaign, Sowore is expected to return to Nigeria before the end of September to resume a more intensive phase of his presidential campaign.

The campaign said his temporary absence from Nigeria would not affect its activities, adding that the #Sowore2027 campaign would continue across the country.

Sowore is also expected to participate virtually in campaign engagements while abroad and attend relevant meetings and activities involving Nigerians in the diaspora across the United States and Canada.

The AAC maintains that its campaign is focused on what it describes as revolutionary transformation, equal rights and justice, while rejecting the continued recycling of the political establishment.
