Ochei Seeks Stronger Institutions, Prosperity as Delta Marks 35th Anniversary

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has called for a renewed commitment to transforming Delta State’s human, natural and financial resources into tangible prosperity for its people.
Ochei made the call in a message commemorating the 35th anniversary of the creation of Delta State, urging Deltans to use the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the state’s development journey since its creation in 1991.
He said that while Delta had recorded significant progress, the state’s abundant natural resources, revenues and human capital had yet to fully translate into improved living conditions for ordinary citizens.
According to him, the next phase of development should focus on converting the state’s resources and potential into shared prosperity.
Ochei, who is also the Delta North senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), advocated stronger institutions, quality education, productive employment, modern infrastructure and sustainable economic opportunities.
He stressed that development should be measured by its impact on citizens rather than government expenditure or the number of projects announced.
The former Speaker said young people deserved opportunities to develop their talents and fulfil their aspirations, while communities should have functional infrastructure and citizens should benefit from an economy that rewards enterprise and hard work.
He further called for a development model that empowers citizens to become productive and self-reliant instead of depending continually on political patronage.
Congratulating Deltans at home and in the diaspora on the 35th anniversary, Ochei expressed optimism that the state’s best opportunities remained ahead.
He said the anniversary should usher in renewed vision, stronger institutions and greater opportunities for the people, adding that building a stronger Delta North would contribute significantly to a more prosperous, inclusive and economically vibrant Delta State.
