NUJ State Information Chapel Backs Obieh for Delta Council Chairmanship

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), State Information Chapel, alongside supporters under the United Voice for Delta NUJ, have thrown their weight behind Comrade Kenneth Obieh in his bid to become Chairman of the Delta State NUJ Council.

The group demonstrated its support on Monday, August 24, 2026, with the purchase of Obieh’s nomination form for the October 2026 Delta State NUJ Council elections.

The nomination form was purchased at the Delta State NUJ Press Centre and received from the Secretary of the NUJ Credentials Committee, Comrade Abel Johngold.
The supporters said the gesture was a demonstration of their confidence in Obieh’s leadership experience, character and capacity to provide effective direction for the state council.

Obieh, who has served as Chairman of the State Information Chapel for six years, was particularly commended for his contributions to peace, unity, stability and purposeful leadership within the chapel.

According to the group, his six-year leadership experience has given him a deep understanding of the challenges confronting journalists and the union, making him a strong contender for the chairmanship position.

They described his leadership record as tested and proven, stressing that the next NUJ administration requires a leader capable of promoting unity, protecting journalists' welfare and restoring confidence in the union.
Responding to the show of support, Obieh expressed appreciation to members of the State Information Chapel and the United Voice for Delta NUJ for the confidence reposed in him.

He said the endorsement had strengthened his resolve to serve the union with humility, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.

Obieh pledged to work towards restoring the integrity of the Delta State NUJ Council, promising to run an open-door administration that would protect the collective interests and welfare of journalists across the state.

He further promised to uphold transparency, accountability, honesty and probity if elected, assuring members that the welfare of journalists would remain a central priority of his administration.

The supporters subsequently appealed to NUJ delegates and members across Delta State to support Obieh in the October election, describing him as an aspirant whose experience, character and leadership record have earned him the confidence of his colleagues.

The October 2026 election is expected to determine a new leadership for the Delta State NUJ Council as journalists across the state prepare to elect officers that will steer the affairs of the union for the next tenure.
