NAWOJ Delta Chairperson Condoles with Christy Ichofu Over Husband’s Death

The State Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, has expressed condolences to veteran journalist, Princess Christy Ichofu, over the death of her husband, Pastor Patrick Ichofu.

Unobunjo led members of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on a condolence visit to Princess Ichofu at her residence in Asaba on Tuesday, September 10, 2026.

During the visit, the NAWOJ chairperson described the death of Pastor Ichofu as a painful loss, urging the bereaved family to take solace in God and draw strength from Him during the mourning period.

She said the visit was aimed not only at sympathising with Princess Ichofu and her family but also at assuring them that colleagues in the journalism profession stood firmly with them at the difficult moment.

Unobunjo encouraged the veteran journalist to remain strong and continue to uphold the legacies of her late husband, while cherishing the memories they shared together.

She further assured Princess Ichofu that NAWOJ would identify with the family throughout the burial arrangements.

According to her, once the burial date and programme are released, the bereaved family should inform the association, assuring that NAWOJ would make its contribution towards the burial and ensure its presence at the ceremony.

Pastor Patrick Ichofu died on Friday, September 4, 2026. He hailed from Ozoro and Ellu communities in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Described by those who knew him as a peaceful, friendly and compassionate man, the deceased was said to have related with people with kindness and warmth.

Unobunjo prayed to God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.

Responding on behalf of the family, the son-in-law of Mrs. Ichofu, Barrister Afor Irogbo, thanked the NAWOJ leadership and members of the NUJ delegation for the condolence visit.

Irogbo said the family deeply appreciated the association’s gesture and the show of solidarity at the difficult period.

He assured the delegation that the family would communicate the burial arrangements to NAWOJ as soon as the programme was finalised.

The condolence visit adds to the growing expressions of sympathy from members of the journalism profession, political leaders, friends and other sympathisers, reflecting the respect enjoyed by the late Pastor Ichofu and the solidarity extended to his family following his death.
