INEC Declares Adeleke Winner of Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo in the early hours of Sunday.

According to INEC, 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, while 985,079 votes were recorded as valid. A total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll.

Adeleke won in 19 of the state's 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.
The election, which involved 15 political parties, followed months of intense campaigns and heightened political activities across the state.
The poll was largely peaceful, although there were reports of isolated incidents, including alleged vote-buying, intimidation and delays in the uploading of some results to INEC's Result Viewing Portal.

Adeleke's victory secures him a second term as Governor of Osun State. He won his first term in the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before moving to the Accord Party in 2025.

Following the declaration, jubilant supporters took to the streets of Osogbo and Ede, Adeleke's hometown, singing and dancing in celebration of the governor's re-election.

The result represents a significant victory for the Accord Party and Adeleke, who successfully defended his position against a strong APC challenge in the closely watched governorship contest.
