Gunmen Kill APC Chairman in Kogi, Abduct Another Occupant

Gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, and abducted another occupant of his vehicle.
The incident occurred at about 5pm on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afusat Saliu, confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the police, the assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists along the highway.
A blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was subsequently found abandoned along the road.
Yunusa, who was reportedly driving the vehicle, was found dead inside the car, while the other occupant was allegedly abducted and taken into the bush by the attackers.
ASP Saliu said the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had commenced a search operation aimed at rescuing the abducted victim and apprehending the perpetrators.
The deceased was evacuated to Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for autopsy, while security operatives continued investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has ordered sustained security operations along the affected route and directed personnel to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to justice.
The police also urged motorists and residents in the area to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
