Delta at 35: Oborevwori Celebrates Progress, Calls for Greater Commitment

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Deltans to renew their commitment to sustaining the peace, development and progress recorded in the state as Delta marks its 35th anniversary.

Oborevwori made the call on Thursday at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, to commemorate the creation of Delta State on August 27, 1991.

The Governor described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate the state’s achievements over the past 35 years, reflect on its journey and strengthen collective efforts toward building a more prosperous and united Delta.

He attributed the progress recorded in the state to the grace of God, the contributions of successive administrations and the efforts of Deltans, while commending residents for maintaining peace and stability.

Oborevwori paid tribute to past political leaders, former military administrators and civilian governors for their contributions to the development and democratic growth of the state.

He said every administration had contributed a chapter to Delta’s history, stressing the need for the achievements of previous governments to be acknowledged and built upon.

The Governor also recognised the contributions of the state’s diverse ethnic nationalities, religious communities and non-indigenes, describing the diversity of Delta as one of its greatest strengths.

He said his administration remained committed to consolidating previous achievements while taking further steps to improve the welfare and living conditions of the people.

Oborevwori identified infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture and technology as key priority areas of his administration.

He added that the government would continue to strengthen institutions, create an enabling environment for businesses and provide opportunities for young people to realise their potential.

The Governor further reiterated his commitment to an inclusive administration through collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, political stakeholders, civil society organisations, organised labour, the private sector, women and communities across the state.

He particularly commended Deltans for sustaining peace, noting that the peaceful environment had contributed significantly to the development witnessed across the state.

Oborevwori expressed optimism that Delta would record even greater progress by the time it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

In his sermon titled “The Uniqueness of the Christian Faith,” the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Asaba, Venerable Charles Osemenam, urged Deltans to deepen their relationship with God and maintain unwavering faith and trust in Him.

Osemenam described the anniversary as an opportunity for thanksgiving and sober reflection, urging the people to acknowledge God’s role in Delta’s journey and continue to seek divine guidance.

The thanksgiving service was attended by the Wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; and other senior government officials.
