Delta Advocates Multi-Agency Collaboration to Tackle Insecurity

The Delta State Government has called for sustained collaboration, integration and intelligence sharing among security agencies and non-state actors as part of efforts to address the security challenges confronting the country.

The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, made the call when he received participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course 16, 2026, of the Defence Intelligence College, Karu, Abuja, who were in the state on a study tour.

The study tour, themed “Strengthening National Resilience through Integrated Intelligence, Multi-Agency Coordination, and Regional Security Cooperation,” focused on strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

Dr. Emu said no single security agency could effectively confront the nation’s security challenges in isolation, stressing that seamless coordination among security agencies and other stakeholders was essential for effective intelligence gathering and improved security.
“There must always be collaboration and integration of the ecosystem when we talk about issues of intelligence and security. It is very important. There is a need for collaboration at every level, including non-state actors,” he said.

The SSG also advocated stronger regional security cooperation, noting that closer collaboration among states within the same geopolitical region would facilitate intelligence sharing and make it more difficult for criminals to operate across state boundaries.

He explained that the Delta State Government had strengthened its community-based security architecture through the engagement of forest guards and vigilante groups.
According to him, the familiarity of these community-based security personnel with local terrain gives them an important advantage in identifying and responding to criminal activities.

Dr. Emu further disclosed that the government was reclaiming and transforming previously abandoned forests into productive economic spaces as part of its strategy to eliminate environments that could serve as hideouts for criminal elements.

He said combining intelligence-led security operations with community participation and economic development would provide a more sustainable approach to tackling insecurity.

The Delta State Government therefore reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies, neighbouring states, communities and other stakeholders to strengthen security, protect lives and property, and create a safer environment for economic and social development.
