2027: Iyovwaye, Ochei Rally Delta North for NDC, Promise Economic Change

ASABA — The Delta State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Chris Iyovwaye, and the party’s Delta North Senatorial candidate, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, have rallied supporters to unite and work for all NDC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The duo spoke on Friday at the NDC State Secretariat in Asaba during an interaction with supporters from Delta North, where they stressed the need to end internal differences and build a united political front for the elections.

Iyovwaye, who arrived late for the meeting, apologised to supporters, explaining that he had returned from Europe through Abuja and was scheduled to join the party’s mobilisation earlier.

He, however, said his movement was delayed following an alleged shooting during an NDC one-million-man march in Delta, Uvwie, claiming that some supporters were injured.

According to him, he had to accompany the injured participants to hospital before proceeding to Asaba.
Turning to the political message of the gathering, Iyovwaye declared that unity remained central to the NDC’s campaign, urging members of the Obidient movement to put past disagreements behind them.

He disclosed that he recently met with Ochei in London, where they spent about three hours discussing concerns within the movement and the need to work together.

Iyovwaye said the meeting marked a fresh beginning, calling on supporters to close ranks and focus on the task of building the NDC into a formidable political force in Delta State.

He singled out Delta North as a crucial battleground, urging supporters across the district to intensify mobilisation for Ochei.

The governorship candidate also drew attention to the region’s enormous human and energy resources, particularly the Okpai power project in Ndokwa.

He argued that communities in Delta North should benefit more from the resources located in the region, stressing the importance of strong representation at the National Assembly.

Ochei, in his remarks, thanked Iyovwaye for coming to Asaba, the state capital, to personally interact with the people of Delta North.

The NDC Delta North Senatorial candidate assured that the people had resolved to work for all NDC candidates in the next general elections.

He said the people were yearning for a change capable of delivering economic prosperity to Delta State and Nigeria.

Ochei expressed concern over the level of hardship confronting Nigerians, describing the situation as alarming and particularly painful for ordinary citizens.

He maintained that the NDC had what it takes to provide a new direction and uplift Nigerians from the economic hardship currently being experienced.

He consequently urged NDC supporters to remain united, committed and focused, saying the party's success would depend on collective action.

The meeting ended with renewed calls for reconciliation, unity and grassroots mobilisation as the NDC intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections in Delta State.
