WAIVE TO OMO-AGEGE: DOCUMENTS CANNOT SPEAK FOR PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS

The attention of the member representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis E. Waive, has been drawn to the statement issued by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, accusing him of lying over the Federal Medical Centre, Ovwian Bill.

For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Waive stands by his account of the events surrounding the Bill and will not be distracted by personal attacks, name-calling or attempts to rewrite the history of the matter.

It is important to state that the existence of a presidential approval for the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, is not in dispute. A presidential approval cannot, by itself, prove that the conversation between the two politicians did not take place. The issue raised by Hon. Waive concerns a conversation surrounding the Federal Medical Centre, Ovwian Bill after it came up for 1st reading in the House of Representatives. It is important to note that the first reading took place on the 21st of July 2020.

Rev Waive states once again that DSP OmoAgege asked that the FMC Bill be stepped down and did everything to frustrate it claiming that it conflicted in time with his Bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Orogun. It is sad that while RevWaive assisted OmoAgege’s Bill with concurrence in the House, OmoAgege frustrated RevWaive’s FMC Bill.

The question now is who is telling a lie between OmoAgege and RevWaive. A causal look at the antecedents of both men will tell who the habitual liar is. For instance all the lies Ovie OmoAgege told to followers since the 2023 elections are in the public domain.

If Senator Omo-Agege's position is that the conversation never happened, the appropriate response is simply to deny the conversation and provide whatever evidence he considers necessary to support his position. It is unnecessary to attack Hon. Waive's person, faith, family, political history or qualifications. Otherwise OmoAgege can go and swear at the Igbe shrine that he is telling the truth.

Hon. Waive also rejects the attempt to portray his legislative record as having been dependent on any individual. He was elected by the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency and has continued to discharge the responsibilities entrusted to him by his constituents.

The attempt to claim that he has "nothing to show" after seven years is a political assertion, not a substitute for evidence. His legislative record is available for public scrutiny, just as the records of every other public office holder are.

The people of Delta Central are sophisticated enough to distinguish between a documentary record and an assertion about a private conversation. They deserve facts, not personal attacks.

Hon. Waive therefore challenges Senator Omo-Agege to address the substantive issue and stop the name calling. Perhaps OmoAgege will one day realize before it is too late that his politics is archaic, retrogressive and catastrophic
