Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs Dies at 84

Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The renowned actor, regarded as one of the pioneers and influential figures in Nigeria’s film industry, reportedly died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

According to reports by TVC, his son, Olusoji Jacobs, announced his death in a post on Instagram.

In the statement, the family expressed gratitude to God for the life of the veteran actor and appealed to the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect the family's privacy during the period of mourning.

The statement described Olu Jacobs as “The Lion of Lufodo” and identified him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

Olu Jacobs was celebrated for his distinguished career spanning stage, television and film. He became one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood and earned widespread respect for his contribution to the growth of Nigeria's entertainment industry.

His death marks the loss of one of Nigeria's most celebrated acting figures, whose career and influence extended across several generations of performers and audiences.
