Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the management of Carissa Hills International Schools for establishing the CHIS Educational Support Foundation to provide scholarships for brilliant children from less privileged backgrounds, describing the initiative as a significant contribution towards expanding access to quality education and creating opportunities for a brighter future.
The governor, who was represented by Dr. Festus Okubo, gave the commendation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during the school's annual prize-giving ceremony and formal launch of the foundation's scholarship scheme in Asaba.
Oborevwori described the occasion as a celebration of excellence, hard work and dedication, noting that it provided an opportunity to recognise outstanding academic achievements while appreciating the contributions of teachers and parents to the development and success of their children.
He congratulated the award recipients and encouraged them to remain focused, humble and determined in their pursuit of academic and personal excellence. He urged the students to see the awards as motivation to aim higher, stressing that excellence could only be sustained through discipline, commitment and consistent hard work.
The governor particularly expressed satisfaction with the foundation's decision to provide scholarships for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, emphasising that no child should be denied access to quality education because of financial challenges.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, represented by the member representing Ndokwa East Constituency, Hon. Emeka Osamuta, commended the management of Carissa Hills International Schools for its commitment to quality education and the development of future leaders.
Guwor described education as one of the greatest investments any society could make, noting that it equips children with the knowledge, values, skills and confidence required to become responsible citizens and productive members of society.
He congratulated the award-winning students on their accomplishments and encouraged them not to regard the recognition as the end of their journey but as motivation to achieve greater heights. He also urged students who did not receive awards to remain focused, work harder and believe in their abilities, while appreciating teachers for their sacrifices and parents for their continued investment in the education and upbringing of their children.
In her remarks, the former First Lady of Delta State, Evangelist Mrs. Edith Okowa, urged teachers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, describing teaching as a calling that requires commitment to nurturing and preparing children for a better future.
She also called on parents to instil discipline and good values in their children, stressing that the responsibility of raising responsible children should not be left entirely to teachers but must be a collective effort between the home and the school.
The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, congratulated the proprietor of Carissa Hills International Schools, Rt. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, popularly known as Ada Anioma, on the quality of infrastructure and standard of teaching in the institution.
The traditional ruler said the students' presentations and performances demonstrated the quality of education offered by the school. He described education as an important tool for shaping the future and urged the students to take their studies seriously, identify their preferred career paths and make the best use of the educational opportunities provided by their parents.
Also speaking, renowned environmentalist and philanthropist, Newton Jibunoh, described the initiative as an investment in human capital development and encouraged the students to dream big and pursue their ambitions with determination.
Jibunoh disclosed plans to introduce a storytelling programme aimed at promoting the intellectual and personal development of children, adding that the programme would soon commence at Mandela Garden in Asaba.
He further pledged to sponsor the best-performing students of Carissa Hills International Schools who choose to study Architecture or Environmental Science in any university in Nigeria, covering their education for four years.
The Chairman of the occasion, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, who was represented by the Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly, Barr. Otto Aghoghophia, described education as the foundation of sustainable development.
He commended the school management for initiating the scholarship programme and assured that his organisation was willing to support efforts aimed at promoting academic development. He also pledged to make personal contributions towards supporting the foundation.
The Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, was represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, who commended the students for their impressive academic performances and applauded the proprietress for establishing the Carissa Hills Educational Support Foundation.
She described the initiative as a worthy intervention aimed at identifying and supporting exceptional pupils and students, encouraging them to pursue their educational aspirations despite financial limitations.
She disclosed that the foundation had awarded scholarships to outstanding pupils and students who emerged first and second in their respective classes, with the scholarship support covering full academic sessions and one-term periods, respectively, as part of efforts to encourage academic excellence.
She urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies, work harder and take advantage of the scholarship opportunities to build a successful future.
Earlier, the Proprietress of Carissa Hills International Schools and initiator of the Carissa Hills Educational Support Foundation, Rt. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi (Ada Anioma), said the foundation was established out of her personal understanding of the challenges faced by children whose parents could not afford quality education.
She explained that the foundation was inspired by the need to identify brilliant children in government schools whose academic potential could be limited by financial difficulties, noting that the initiative was designed to complement government efforts rather than replace them.
According to her, the foundation would initially provide full tuition and learning materials for selected pupils, mentor beneficiaries and monitor their academic progress every term, while plans were underway to extend its interventions to cover WAEC and NECO examination fees as well as university education support.
Onyemaechi described the scholarship as a trust and an investment in the future of the beneficiaries, urging them to remain disciplined, work hard and develop a culture of giving back by supporting other children when they become successful.
She expressed appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori; the First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme; his wife, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme; former Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa; his wife, Evangelist Mrs. Edith Okowa; the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor; the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN; and other distinguished guests for honouring the occasion.
She also appreciated the management and staff of Carissa Hills International Schools, parents, friends, partners, her children and siblings for their support towards the actualisation of the vision.
The event featured the presentation of awards to outstanding pupils and students, the formal launch of the Carissa Hills Educational Support Foundation and the presentation of scholarships to deserving beneficiaries, particularly exceptional pupils and students from government schools.
