The Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and all Nigerians on the occasion of the nation's 66th Independence Anniversary.
Rt. Hon. Guwor conveyed the message on Wednesday during plenary of the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba, shortly before the House adjourned proceedings in commemoration of the national celebration.
In his remarks, the Speaker extended warm felicitations to the President, Governor Oborevwori, his colleagues in the 8th Assembly, other public officials and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, while urging citizens to reflect deeply on the significance of the country's independence and the collective journey towards nation-building.
He said, "On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, my esteemed colleagues, and indeed all Nigerians on the occasion of our 66th Independence Anniversary”.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor further noted that 66 years after independence, Nigeria remains a nation blessed with enormous human and natural resources, resilience and diversity, adding that despite challenges, the Nigerian spirit has remained unbroken.
He commended President Tinubu for his bold reforms aimed at repositioning the nation's economy under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and lauded Governor Oborevwori for his people-focused leadership in Delta State through the M.O.R.E Agenda, which has continued to ensure peace, infrastructural renewal and inclusive development across the state.
"At 66, our nation has come a long way. We have faced storms, but we have also recorded remarkable progress. This is a moment for sober reflection, for thanksgiving, and for renewed commitment to the ideals of our founding fathers, including unity, peace, justice and equity.
"As a legislature, we reaffirm our commitment to making laws that will promote good governance, security and economic prosperity for all Deltans and Nigerians. We will continue to partner with the executive to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people”, Guwor stated.
The Speaker called on Nigerians, particularly the youth, to remain patriotic, hopeful and united, stressing that nation-building is a collective responsibility that requires the contribution of every citizen.
"Let us use this Independence anniversary to rekindle our love for country, to shun divisive tendencies, and to work together for a greater Nigeria where no one is left behind," he added.
He concluded by congratulating Nigerians once again and praying for God's continued blessings, peace and prosperity upon the nation and its citizens.
"On behalf of my family, the good people of Warri South West Constituency, the entire Delta State House of Assembly and the Conference of Speakers, I wish all Nigerians a happy and peaceful 66th Independence Anniversary. May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the Speaker added.
