Ika Chapel Endorses STAND-UP Team Ahead Of October 15 Delta NUJ Election

The Ika Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has endorsed the Comrade Kenneth Onojomena Obieh-led STAND-UP Team ahead of the October 15, 2026 Delta NUJ Council election.

The endorsement was made on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during a campaign visit by the team to the chapel, where the leadership and members publicly expressed their support for the candidates.

The motion endorsing the STAND-UP Team was moved by the Secretary of Ika Chapel, Comrade Jonathan Onwukoya, and seconded by the Chapel’s Financial Secretary, Comrade Clinton Nwachukwu.

Onwukoya said the chapel had resolved to endorse all candidates of the STAND-UP Team as its preferred candidates for the various positions being contested.

Supporting the motion, Nwachukwu described Ika Chapel as a united chapter and affirmed the chapel’s endorsement of the team.

The development adds to ongoing chapel-level engagements ahead of the Delta NUJ election, as candidates and their supporters intensify campaigns and consultations with journalists and delegates across the state.

The STAND-UP Team is led by Comrade Kenneth Onojomena Obieh as Chairmanship candidate, with Comrade Patrick Ochie as Vice Chairman, Comrade Felix Ekwu as Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior as Assistant Secretary, Comrade Caroline Ubini as Treasurer and Comrade Michael Ilaya as Auditor.
Caroline Ubini and Michael Ilaya are reportedly unopposed in their respective positions.

The team has presented an agenda centred on stability, service, elevation and enrichment, with emphasis on members’ welfare, professional development, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, unity and institutional strengthening.

The October 15 election is expected to determine the next leadership of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, with chapels and delegates continuing consultations and engagements ahead of the poll.

The Ika Chapel endorsement comes two weeks before the election and represents another development in the ongoing campaign activities within the council.
