Ibori Golf Club Hails Asagba Azinge, Celebrates Asaba New Yam Festival

The Ibori Golf and Country Club has felicitated the 14th Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, on the occasion of the 2026 Iwa-Ji (New Yam Festival), describing the celebration as a reflection of Asaba’s rich cultural heritage and enduring unity.

The club’s goodwill message was presented by its Captain, Mr Alex Joe Tuoyo, at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, on behalf of the entire membership, Executive Committee and Trustees.

The club congratulated the Asagba, members of the Asagba-in-Council, traditional rulers, chiefs, title holders and the people of Asaba, while joining the kingdom to celebrate the harvest season.

It said Iwa-Ji was not only a celebration of the new yam but also an occasion to celebrate life, give thanks for a fruitful farming season and pray for peace, prosperity and continued progress in Asaba Kingdom.

Club Celebrates Asagba’s Royal Patronage

The Ibori Golf and Country Club also expressed appreciation to Obi Azinge for his role as Patron of the Club, acknowledging his fatherly guidance and royal patronage.

According to the club, the Asagba’s patronage has been a source of peace, growth and honour to the club and the wider golfing community in Asaba and beyond.

The club said the golfing community holds the Asagba’s palace and reign in high esteem, stressing the importance of the traditional institution in promoting unity and development in the kingdom.

Prayers for Asaba, Asagba
As part of the celebration, the club prayed for a more bountiful harvest, lasting peace and prosperity in Asaba Kingdom.

It also prayed for long life, good health and divine wisdom for Obi Azinge as he continues to occupy the throne of his forebears.

The club wished the Asagba and the people of Asaba a happy New Yam Festival, ending its message with the traditional salutation: “Nnaagwu! May your reign be long!”

It further declared: “Long Live the Asagba! Long Live Asaba Kingdom.”
