Delta SSG Visits Secretariat After Death of Higher Education Official, Promises Investigation

ASABA — The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, has visited the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba following the reported death of Mr. Adeida Unity, a Level 16 Deputy Director with the State Ministry of Secondary Education, amid allegations surrounding an assault said to have occurred yesterday,24/9/26.

Unity was reportedly involved in an incident in which he was allegedly assaulted by some persons said by colleagues to be aides loyal to the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr, Kingsley Ashibogwu.

He was subsequently reported to have died from complications allegedly linked to the incident.

The development has triggered grief and anger among civil servants at the secretariat, with workers expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding the death and calling for a thorough investigation and accountability.

Emu, who visited the secretariat on the directive of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, appealed to workers to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

The SSG assured the workers that the state government would investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces appropriate consequences.

He said the government would not tolerate injustice against members of the state workforce, stressing that the safety, welfare and dignity of civil servants remained important to the Oborevwori administration.

Emu also appealed to workers to maintain peace within the secretariat and return to their official duties while the government addresses the matter.

He reiterated that the state government holds its workforce in high esteem and remains committed to creating an environment where civil servants can discharge their responsibilities without fear or intimidation.

The visit came amid heightened tension among some workers following the death of their colleague.

Some civil servants who spoke about the development expressed shock and sadness, while alleging that government employees are sometimes subjected to high-handed treatment by political actors.

They called for a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Unity's death, insisting that justice should be allowed to take its course.

The workers maintained that no amount of compensation could bring back their late colleague, stressing that their major demand was accountability and justice.

The state government is expected to support or initiate appropriate investigations to establish the facts surrounding the alleged assault and the subsequent death of the civil servant.
