43-Year-Old Nigerian-British Businessman Dies After Cosmetic Procedure in Thailand

A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, popularly known as “Tiny,” “Denisi” and “Ego,” has died after developing a fatal pulmonary embolism following a cosmetic penis enlargement procedure in Thailand.

Ubiribo reportedly underwent the procedure while on holiday in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, in March.

According to reports presented at an inquest in the United Kingdom, approximately 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into his penis at an unnamed clinic.

After the procedure, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly returned to their Marriott hotel, where they went for a massage.

During the massage, he complained of chest pain and subsequently collapsed twice.

He was rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he initially responded to questions from medical personnel.

His wife reportedly informed doctors that he had recently undergone filler injections, prompting concerns that he may have suffered a pulmonary embolism.

Doctors recommended a CT scan, but Ubiribo reportedly lost consciousness before the examination could be carried out.

He was subsequently admitted to the intensive care unit, where medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 100 minutes in an attempt to save his life.

He died in the early hours of March 6.
Postmortem Links Filler to Death
Evidence presented during an inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court reportedly linked the cosmetic procedure to Ubiribo’s death.

A postmortem examination conducted in the United Kingdom found cellular material in his lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.

Pathologist John du Parcq told the inquest that the material found in Ubiribo’s lungs matched the substance used in the filler treatment.

According to the pathologist, the findings were consistent with a pulmonary embolism and also corresponded with the results of an autopsy conducted in Thailand.

Following the evidence, Coroner Jean Harkin reportedly concluded that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure.

A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood vessel supplying the lungs becomes blocked, potentially restricting blood flow and placing severe strain on the heart.

Doctor Reports No Major Underlying Condition
Evidence from Ubiribo’s primary care doctor in London also provided details about his medical history during the inquest.

He had previously undergone joint surgery and was reportedly described as pre-diabetic and suffering from gout.

However, his doctor indicated that he had no other significant underlying medical conditions.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are used in some cosmetic procedures, including non-surgical attempts to increase penile girth. Although the substance is also widely used in other cosmetic treatments, injectable fillers can carry serious risks when complications occur.

Influencer Known for Affluent Lifestyle
Ubiribo was known on social media for documenting an affluent lifestyle and reportedly had about 185,000 followers on Instagram.

He reportedly owned a home in Los Angeles valued at about $1.1 million and an apartment in London worth approximately $600,000.

He married fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen in a lavish ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022.

Following his death, Ubiribo was buried in London in a gold coffin reportedly valued at more than $600,000.

Afrobeats singer Davido attended the funeral and reportedly paid tribute to his childhood friend, describing him as a man with remarkable energy and presence.

The circumstances surrounding Ubiribo’s death have renewed attention on the potential complications associated with cosmetic procedures involving injectable fillers.

While hyaluronic acid is commonly used in cosmetic medicine, the coroner’s findings in this case linked the substance used during Ubiribo’s procedure to material found in his lungs.
