2027: Delta Widows Back Tinubu, Oborevwori, APC Candidates

Widows across the three senatorial districts of Delta State have pledged their unalloyed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates in the 2027 elections.

The women made the pledge Monday at the flag-off of the Widows Support Group for Tinubu/Oborevwori at the City Boys Secretariat, Asaba.

Speaking at the event, Senior Policy Adviser and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, charged the women to take the message of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas to their communities.

Funkekeme urged them to understand government policies and programmes before communicating them to voters, saying they should mobilise responsibly without abusing political opponents.

“This is not merely a gathering. We are coming together to form a support group that will mobilise and work for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other candidates of the APC,” he said.

Chief Adviser to the Governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori, said the support of women across the state would contribute significantly to the APC’s victory in the 2027 elections, urging them to enrol in the state’s free contributory healthcare scheme for widows to improve their well-being.

Also, General Manager of the Delta State Social Investment Programme, Chief Henry Sakpra, commended the initiative and urged the women to mobilise support for all APC candidates across the state.

Sakpra described the women as ambassadors of the party, urging them to communicate the programmes and interests of the candidates to voters.

Earlier, Director-General of the group, Chief Isioma Okonta, said the initiative was inspired by the Oborevwori administration’s widows welfare programme.

He said 10,000 widows across the 25 local government areas had been receiving monthly stipends since the programme was launched on August 18, 2025.

Okonta said the beneficiaries decided to reciprocate the support by becoming ambassadors of the Renewed Hope and MORE agendas and mobilising votes for Tinubu, Oborevwori and other APC candidates in 2027.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs Cynthia Umukoro, Delta Central; Mrs Joy Egbo, Delta South; and Mrs Angela Osita, Delta North, pledged their commitment to the group’s objectives.

Prayers were offered for Governor Oborevwori, Delta State and Nigeria.

Those inaugurated into the state executive committee include; Chief Isioma Okonta, Director-General; Pastor Achike Sunday, Secretary; Chief Kelvin Ogaga, Treasurer; Lady Kanwulia Omoko, Delta North Coordinator; Mrs Mary Erijo, Delta South Coordinator; and Chief Dora Sakpaide, Delta Central Coordinator.

Others include Mrs Omude Ochonogor-Ochibe, Delta North Mobiliser; Mrs Georgina Evah, Delta South Mobiliser; Hon. Ufuoma Oboroh, Delta Central Mobiliser; Hon. Uko Martins, Welfare Director; Chief Felix Ofou, Media Director; Dr Nelson Egware, Deputy Media Director; and other officials.
